Channeling Social Responsibility In Haiti

Editor’s Note:
The following blog post initially appeared on The Be Like Brit Foundation, Inc website on August 28, 2016. You may read the original piece by clicking here.

I was personally asked by Papi Len Gengel and Jonathan LaMare to contribute to this week’s blog post on belikebrit.org following my first trip to Brit’s Home with Team Water-Buffalo.

As a son of Haitian immigrants, it felt surreal being back in the old country knowing where you are — yet experiencing something totally fresh and new with two mindsets: read more

Be Like Brit Update

BLB Logo

Just got off a call with the folks at Be Like Brit

The trip to Haiti has been scrubbed to 2016 due to safety concerns with the current election there. I have been monitoring the situation over the last few days. There’s been isolated acts of civil unrest and protests 🙁

So needless to say I won’t be traveling to Port-Au-Prince on 11/20/2015. While I am a bit bummed that I won’t be in the motherland for Thanksgiving, giving back and seeing the progress in Grand Goave at the Orphanage, interacting with the kids and enjoying 80+ degrees sunny weather — I know the decision to postpone the trip by the BLB staff in both U.S & Haiti was made out of abundance of caution. read more

Remembering Mr. Harry Glenn and Mr. Brian Kinney on 9/11

When I had my old WordPress site, I had written about these two gentlemen below.

Since I no longer have that database and blog-post, it seems fitting once again that on the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 that I write about Harry Glenn and Brian Kinney.

Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting these two, I am connected to them in two ways:

Harry Glenn, was an alum of N.C. Central University, my alma mater. Glenn, 38, a 1983 NCCU graduate, was on the 97th floor of Tower One, ready to start his workday at Marsh & McLennan, a global professional services firm, where he was Assistant Vice President of Global Technology. read more

Nashua, NH Voters: Go vote today! There are 6 Candidates in Nashua Mayoral Primary

To my Nashua, NH Friends:

In case you’ve been living under a rock over the last few weeks,I just want to remind you that Tuesday is an important election day — the Nashua Mayoral Primary.

There are 6 Candidates on the Ballot. I’ve never seen so many people run for the Top office since i’ve moved here almost 20 years ago.

The polls are open from 6am to 8pm. It is my personal opinion that the local election is one of the few opportunities where your voice can be heard and is counted. The winners from this round will potentially go on and be our City’s next leader. Exciting times for the city as there is a big need move our community forward into the 21st century and tackle issues such as reducing crime, drug abuse, bringing in economic development and community involvement and opportunities for all. read more

Personal Reflection on the Death of Two Journalists on Live Television in Virginia

I‘m going to be really biased but this is how we should remember these two journalists and not by sharing their last moments on this earth from the perspective of the shooter. If you’ve seen the video, I urge you don’t share. Don’t even bother watching.  Leave it to us to tell you. I want to spare you that pain. What if it was your loved one?  Day in and day out many of my friends and industry colleagues work hard to produce and deliver the news for print, radio, tv and online. read more

Let’s Help Haiti Together!

I am heading to Haiti in November 2015, during the week of Thanksgiving (November 21-29), to volunteer at the Be Like Brit Orphanage located in the Town of Grand Goâve [pronounced Grangwav].

This will be my first service mission trip and I’m asking for your help to get me there, and to contribute to a good cause, that’s close to my heart – orphaned children and families in need.

During this trip I will join a group of fellow “Britsionarys” (a term coined by the Founders of this great non-profit) who will help around the orphanage as well as building and furnishing a small home for a Haitian family. read more
